Rated 2 out of5 by fromProblem with Touch ScreenI purchased the Surface Pro 4 (8GB 256 SSD) for use with EMR (electronic med records) specifically for touch screen entry as I see patients. I set the power settings to "do nothing" and "never" so when I close the keyboard over the screen and move from exam room to exam room the devise will remain on and connected to either the intranet or VPN. When I reopened the keyboard I found that the pen remained connected but the touch functions did not. This includes the pen and your fingers. Only a restart re-established this functionality. With the excellent help of the employees at the Microsoft Store at the Christianna Mall in DE, we trouble-shot the system and found that when I added on Office for Home and Student 2016, the touch functionality was lost. Prior to loading this software, closing the keyboard over the screen and reopening functionality was maintained. I ultimately returned the Pro 4 and purchased a Surface Book where the touch function is not affected with that Office product installed. The issue described above occurred on a Pro 4 one week old and the replacement in the store after ALL of the upgrades were downloaded and installed! Make sure that you check the device out with any specific software carefully.

Rated 2 out of5 by fromunhappy, ready to returnPurchased pro 4 256GB/8GB RAM. Shipping was good and fast. Pro 4 device is disappointing as there seems to be many issues. 1.) Cannot easily connect to Hotmail. 2.) cannot download chrome 3.) Cannot run two applications at the same time for example open Microsoft store and perform update and security. 4.) Utilizing left mouse button for simple tasks like creating new folder in open folder or trying to delete a file all I get is un-famous "NOT RESPONDING" error. There are probably other annoyances cannot think of at the moment. Usually I don't write reviews but I am frustrated. I expect new device to run well just like a new car when you start it you can drive!!!

Rated 1 out of5 by fromI went through 4 Surface's, then one workedI started with a Surface 3. It was glitchy, constantly shutting down on me, I had problems with the camera, and the keyboard regularly unlinked. I then went to the SP4 with that one I noticed that on Facebook the words were jumbled up when I was typing comments on posts so I returned it. It turns out that is just a Surface glitch, it happened with every Surface since then (I'm on my 5th). With my third, the keyboard overheated and left a brown mark on the keyboard and a key impression on the screen. With my 4th, I was back to unlinking with the keyboard (it was not a tablet mode problem) and having issues with the camera not focussing. My fifth, fingers crossed, I've kept. I am going to get a warranty though. The only reason I stuck with it is because I got it through work and had to keep it. My students regularly told me to give up and get a MAC because they were witness to the problems as I used it for teaching. I was worried I was going to be blacklisted from Best Buy for returning something so many times.

Rated 2 out of5 by fromBattery life poorDisappointed with battery life, metering estimate seems to be random and constantly varies from 2-7 hrs with only simple apps running, actual run time only 2-3 hrs with web browser , mail or simple game

Rated 5 out of5 by fromNice powerful tabletI bought this to replace my iPad and could not be happier. Easy to use, fast, powerful and fun. Setting up the stylus was very difficult but I eventually won after reviewing Microsoft online help. This may replace my desktop!!!!

Rated 4 out of5 by frommysurfaceenjoying the unit. had a very hard time getting my Microsoft account straightened out. as of right now the only place I can get apps is from the Microsoft store. without an account you are at a stand still. guess I finally got the right combination and my account allowed me to start getting apps. have not put the unit through any test yet. good set of clear sounding speakers and the volume will go high enough to let me enjoy streaming movies. picture quality is very good also from the little i have experimented with the device. special charging cord for the surface. it is not a usb charging cord. had to do some internet surfing to figure out where the sd port was. the running internet program is Microsoft edge. it will not let my Norton virus do it's job. now all this could be that I am not that in touch with the electronic world as well as I should be for this device. but I think I am up for the challenge. (hint: I still like the rotary dial phones of old) I have always like Microsoft/windows products. I would buy this device again just wish I had known more about the unit before it arrived.

Rated 4 out of5 by frompretty much what i wanted. The Good: it should be billed as a laptop with tablet features. It works great as both after two weeks of at least 3 hours per day usage. No, it is not a MacBook etc... but it is so much more. I would give it a 9 of 10 for laptop usage with the Alcatana keyboard. Also, I have binge watched several shows on Netflix in tablet mode. The screen views nicely. I was VERY surprised at how well the writing recognition feature worked. I started with the Toshiba portage tablet 10 years ago and one note and the rest have gotten so much better. The Bad: The screen needs to be able to go brighter. Colors do pop and the size is very nice but in well lighted areas, it is average. Also there is a very large amount of glare off the screen in well lit areas. The Ugly: Not really ugly at all as it was easily fixable; I did have to adjust the settings in order to not have the cursor jump while typing. Also, not really sure why there are two OneNote programs. I purchased student edition word etc but why would they charge me for the one-note addition when it is on the Surface already. There should be a slightly cheaper option without the OneNote.

Rated 1 out of5 by fromGreat except for one MASSIVE flawIts a well engineered machine but there is one flaw that makes me rate it one star. That is the battery life...(I have the i5 model)Their website says "Up to 9 hours of video playback"My 4 year old macbook pro said up to 7 hours and gets BETTER battery life (I have gotten a new battery for it last year right before buying this)....I feel like they tested 100+ models and took the highest number they got in the tests. You are lucky if you get 7 hours of video playback. To get that I had to disable ALL other programs including anti virus, run the laptop on lowest brightness, and under clock the CPU! Want to do real work? 3 hours! Sometimes even less.. Heck, simply want to watch Netflix side by side with another browser tab? 3-4 hours.... (Guess I should have gotten the ipad..)I wanted a light device I can use on the go all day and get some serous work done, but I spend so much time tethered to a wall I guess I should have bought a real laptop for real work.So some people tell me Microsoft promised a fix over software updates.I have all the latest software updates and this tablet has been out for 8 months. If they cannot fix the problem in 8 months then it cannot be fixed with software updates.

Rated 1 out of5 by fromNot user friendlyI bought the surface pro 4 in March 2016 and regret the purchase. The device freezes, unreliable and would just not come on when most needed. No value add to me as I barely get to use it.... Have taken it back severally and always told its updating etc! I am extremely unhappy and wish for a refund instead

Rated 5 out of5 by fromFantastic DeviceI purchased a Surface 4 a month ago and was surprised by how much I actually like it. Windows Hello is an incredible feature, works fast and almost seamlessly as I've gotten used to it. The stylus has remarkable functionality across all programs. The handwriting recognition software can be improved, it is very nice to use, but slow for regular use. Overall, I'm very satisfied with the product and look forward to using it more. I have not experienced any of the complaints that others have listed, so fingers crossed as this has proven to be better and more useful than I was anticipating.

Rated 2 out of5 by fromWant to love it but can'tIf there were not numerous problems with the surface pro 4, it would easily be the best device I have ever owned. I had the 258gb i5 8gb RAM model for about 3 weeks. Things started out great but went downhill quickly. So here are my pros and cons:Pros:Fun to use - apps, web browsing, gaming, video streaming.Easy to customize - homepage tabs, settings.Excellent features and power - fast and reliable speeds with all appsMicrosoft support was always pleasant and helpful.Great sound, touch screen, keyboard, display.Cons:Awful battery life - I did everything the forms said to increase it but would barely get more than 4 hours and would die overnight while in sleep.Does not include keyboard which you will need.BIGGEST PROBLEM WITH IT! the darn thing would not turn on. I brought my first model in and they said it had to be updated. After that, I still had the same problems (and battery was lasting 2 hours after full charge) so they swapped it out for a brand new one. 2 days later I STILL had the same problems and went in again only to be told it was a problem with all windows 10 devices. I could not get my surface to turn on 80% of the time. The most frustrating this is wanting to go on your brand new exciting, useful, and powerful computer/tablet and not being able to get any use out of it.I returned it to the store after going through 2 devices, 5 trips to Microsoft, 2 online chat sessions and probably got a total of 20 hours use. Again, this was a near perfect device. Besides the low battery life and the fact that it wouldn't wake up from sleep. If Microsoft can fix these problems I would recommend this to anyone, but until then stay away.

Rated 5 out of5 by fromGreat overallI've been using for several weeks now. I love taking notes and reading articles and papers using onenote - the pen is very natural. The screen did have an issue when I first got it, with it not coming back on after waking from sleep mode. I just held the power button down for >30 seconds and it came back on. However, I've had no issues with that since.I recommend the i5, 256gb model - not too power hungry, and has enough storage to not feel too constricted when looking at photos, videos, etc.

Rated 1 out of5 by fromDesign not durableThe SP4 is still not able to withstand less than 1ft falls. The metal ridge design on the top right and left corners will bend inwards on impact which will cause the screen to crack. Not only has my surface fallen victim to the poor design, but also many other surfaces on display in Best Buys and Office Depots have the notorious broken corners from short impacts. Please improve the design.

Rated 5 out of5 by fromLove it. It DID replace my laptop (and desktop)As a travel RN who also writes for publications, I depend on my computer wherever I am to keep in contact with my company, scheduling and family. It has been two years since I've had access to a desktop or laptop--and I don't miss them. The surface line is fully capable, reliable and portable. I LOVE my Surface 4!

Rated 5 out of5 by fromA well executed deviceFour years ago I tried to go Apple and bought a Mac Mini and an iPad. After tiring of listening to me swear at the Mac, my wife bought me the Surface Pro 4 and I have been very happy with it. She purchased the i5 processor, 8 GB of ram, the docking station and keyboard/cover and it functions exceptionally well as a desktop. I absolutely love the Surface Pro 4! It is a REAL computer, runs REAL software and can be used like a tablet too. The detachable keyboard has excellent tactile properties and the screen has better resolution than my iPad retina display. The device exudes high quality while remaining highly portable and powerful. My main computer uses are: spreadsheets, photo processing and word processing. I read reviews that mentioned bugs, so the first thing I did was download the updates and I have had essentially no problems. BRAVO Microsoft!

Rated 3 out of5 by fromOk 'tablet', lousy NICI just bought this and it is an ok tablet. The main issue I have is that the range of the NIC is not that good. I have no problem with my other PC's picking up my Router and accessing the full speed of my ISP provider, the Surface range is limited

Rated 5 out of5 by fromThrilled With My Surface Pro 4 256GB.Had it 6 mo.s now and love it as much now as I did when I bought it. Its like I can carry my desktop with me. Nice size screen, apps easily download, battery is about 6-7 hours, can be used as a Tablet or Computer mode. Keyboard is finger touch wonderful, pen works superbly, Camera could be a little more clearer. Needed apps for my work download easily. As a Pastor I carry it with me wherever I go. So many options to choose from.

Rated 4 out of5 by fromWonderful InvestmentI was a bit apprehensive buying this computer especially because of the driver issues. But apparently these issues affect only affect the i5 or i7 machines, the core m apparently had none of these issues. And considering what I wanted to do with it (run Visual Studio and watch YouTube) the core m fit my needs perfectly. the reason why I give this a four out of five stars is because I did get a black screen after a update. however there was a way out, I pressed [ctrl]+[alt]+[delete] and restarted the computer after that everything worked fine. I still enjoy my Surface and I am using it to make 3D games and cellphone apps. The battery in my opinion is vary good; I have had two sessions of Visual Studio, SQL Management Studio, Microsoft Edge playing a YouTube video, Notepad++ with six files open and two file browsers open with all this running it reduced the battery to 20% in about five hours. Probably would have stretched it out to 7 hours if I have turned on battery saver but I have my system set to 40% when it switches to battery saver. My biggest complaints is that I only have one USB port and after I installed Visual Studio, Office, SQL Management Studio, Gimp and a few others my 128GB was reduced to about 40GB

Rated 5 out of5 by fromMac to SurfaceHave been a mac user for over 15 years but will never go back after a few months on the surface. Love the fact that it can be used with key board, touch, and pen. Pen works great with illustrator and taking notes on word documents. The key board is easy to attach and detach. It is fast and powerful. You can log on using camera, finger print, password, or pin. Always had problems on macs using outlook and office products. Windows 10 brings many new features and makes things easier. They tell you the battery life is longer then it is but for me I would rather have the speed and power the a long battery life.

Rated 5 out of5 by fromGreat deviceHad it for a month now and it managed to replace all my devices.I play light games like Dota2 on it, I use it as a tablet for reading and writing down stuff. It's simply awesome !I find the battery enough, lasted like 7h with VSCode running, with the keyboard backlight turned off and brightness low.No issues with the drivers (heard people had troubles with it at first), the pen works great, the keyboard is better than most laptops. The fans only kick in when I play games.Really impressed with the quality of the device and the performance of something so light.
